Mitsubishi Furthers Green Plastics Initiative

We'd all love to say we're doing all we can to reduce greenhouse gases and slow the effects of global warming, but it's simply not that easy, is it? Which is why automakers like Mitsubishi have stepped up to the plate to offer vehicles that are not just fuel-efficient, but built out of the most environmentally-friendly materials possible. From the all-electric Mitsubishi i-MiEV to the floor mats in the Lancer, you can be sure that Mitsubishi is doing everything they can to ensure a bright future for generations to come.
Yes, we said floor mats. As part of their "Green Plastics" initiative, "Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC)...has developed a new floor mat made using plant-based bio-polyethylene (bio-PE) fiber to add to its lineup of proprietary 'Green Plastic' products."1 Other products include wood-based phenolic resins, and interior surface materials constructed from traditional plastics and cotton fibers.
The fibers that will find their home in the floor mats are constructed from plant-based resin (from sugarcane molasses), and are wrapped in a normal petroleum-based polypropylene sheath, which allows them to meet the performance standards of traditional floor mats. Production and testing is set to begin shortly, according to a press release from the automaker, as early as summer 2012.
While we wait for these new developments to take shape, you can rest-assured that all of the new Mitsubishi models currently available at Don Mealey's Sport Mitsubishi are fuel-efficient and as environmentally-friendly as possible. We're located at 3772 West Colonial Dr Orlando, FL 32808, and we're always happy to give you a tour of all the ways Mitsubishi is working towards a greener future.
